50 Kanals Lost, Decades Displaced: A Kashmiri Hindu’s Peaceful Protest in Jammu

Avtar Krishan Koul, a Kashmiri Hindu who migrated to Jammu during the peak of terrorism in Kashmir, has been peacefully protesting outside the Relief Commissioner’s Office in Jammu since December 6, 2025.

His protest highlights long-standing and unresolved issues faced by displaced Kashmiri Hindus.

Speaking to The Measured Voice, Koul said his primary demands include the restoration of encroached land belonging to displaced Kashmiri Hindus and their resettlement on ancestral land in Kashmir with dignity and adequate security.

He stated that at the time of his migration, he owned approximately 50 Kanals of land in Kashmir.

Over the years of displacement, a significant portion of this land has allegedly been taken over—either by government agencies or by local residents.

After decades away from his homeland, Koul says his demands remain straightforward: justice, restoration of rightful ownership, and the right to return home.
